Running Toward: Long Weekend Goals and my Half-Dead Garden

The May long weekend is upon us and though I doubt many of us here are celebrating the name sake of the stat holiday, our household is definitely enjoying an extra day at home. So much so that as I type this, 2 of my 3 littles are completely passed out, exhausted from a morning of swimming. My oldest is at a friends house (yep…they “play” at each other’s houses now that they’re 7 and all grown up, they don’t “play date” any more because that garbage is for the babies…or so I’m told) and I have no clue where Read More …

Planning 2017

Now that 2017 is here and people are done posting about all their resolutions and big plans for the year, I feel like I can quickly hop on to the band wagon a bit. I always have goals on the go and am working on or toward something but I’m not much of a resolution girl. It’s not that I think they’re bad, but I find that they can almost bully us into changing everything about ourselves as a way of making our self-worth more tangible and I’ve learned (very slowly) over the years that it’s just not a healthy Read More …

Swamp Donkey Adventure Race Recap

Hard to believe that just over a week ago, I was crashing through thick bush, sludging through swamps up to chest deep and having a permanent imprint of a bike seat left on my bony rear end. I’ll be honest, I don’t really know how to recap this type of adventure because so much of it defies words and explanation. But I’ll try. The premise of Swamp Donkey is that you spend up to 9 hours (max time) out in the bush of Falcon Lake, Manitoba. You trek, you bike and you canoe (not necessarily in that order or for only Read More …

Running Toward: The Finish Line

Well…fear-inducing, anxiety-provoking, stomach-knotting outdoor adventure done! 9 hours in the bush trekking, biking, biking more, and then a bit more, canoeing and then more biking and my first ever Swamp Donkey is in the books. I’m alive. I think. Thankfully, other than a knee that took a beating on the bike course, I have no pain at all in my body. I was fully expecting to be immobile for days so this is a good sign. The bruises are making themselves known and if left unattended for too long, I will likely fall asleep but otherwise, I came out relatively Read More …

Running Towards: A Different Kind of New Year.

Last week was a whirlwind! First days of school for both boys (sniff, sniff), the little lady’s second birthday on Friday and lots of festivities and shenanigans in between (including one trip to the ER-but that’s a story for another day). I’m still in shock that my little man is in grade 1 this year. Time, please slow down a bit. In only his 4th day of school, I have had no less than 10 heart attacks when I’ve convinced myself that I’ve forgotten, or will forget, to pick him up at the bus stop. Add to that, that I need Read More …
