Vanilla Almond Butter Protein Balls (with Vega Sport!)

I don’t usually post about recipes. Mostly because I’m a terrible cook and have zero creativity when it comes to making food. I usually leave that to people much better suited to that kind of thing. That said, this post is really basic and the picture mediocre.

Let’s all agree to be okay with that.

Vega has been a staple in my house for years. I’ve built a good relationship with them (they are some of the most fabulous people in the world!) and I love how much their products have progressed over the years. Their Sport line is one of the best out there and it seems like as soon as I declare their current versions and flavors to be the best, they take them all up another level and blow me away yet again.

About the New Vega Sport:

Vega Sport Performance Protein is an Informed Choice certified, Plant-Based shake that is Non-GMO certified, certified vegan, gluten-free and made without dairy or soy ingredients, artificial flavors, colours or sweeteners. Each clean protein serving contains:

  • 30 grams of premium and complete plant-based protein
  • 6 grams of each BCAAs and glutamine
  • Performance ingredients tumeric, tart cherry and probiotics (1 billion CFUs)
  • Bromelain, a source of natural enzymes made from pineapple to help support digestion.

Vega Sport Performance Protein is made from pea, pumpkin seed, organic sunflower seed and alfalfa protein for a complementary amino acid profile that tastes great. Best consumed 45-90 minutes after a workout, it can be enjoyed shaken with water or milk of choice (I use almond milk and coconut water) or blended in a smoothie.

Available in Vanilla, Chocolate, Mocha and Berry flavors at local retailers or online at MyVega.com.

I was sent the chocolate, berry and vanilla to sample. I started with the berry because I was sure I wasn’t going to like it. I actually really, really enjoyed it. So surprising because I usually avoid anything berry in a powder because they tend to taste tinny, metallic and not at all like berry. This one blew me away. So did the chocolate. The tart cherry was stronger to me than the actual chocolate flavor and I was totally ok with that. It gave it an awesome flavor that was more decadent to me than something that’s super chocolaty. And the vanilla…well duh! I love vanilla.

Bottom line: This stuff is gold. Pure plant-based gold. Tasty, healthy, filling (and this is saying something because with all this kettlebell training I’m doing, I could eat all day long. And I do…)

Here is a recipe for a protein ball that fast, no-bake and fun!

Vega Sport Performance Protein

Vanilla Almond Butter Protein Balls

Ingredients:

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

1/2 cup almond butter (or nut butter of choice)

1 Tbsp Agave Nectar

1-2 Tbsp raw cacao powder (use more for a more chocolaty flavor, less for a hint of chocolate)

2 Tbsp hemp seeds

1 Tbsp chia seeds

1 generous Tbsp coconut flour

1 heaping scoop Vanilla Vega Sport Performance Protein powder (you can also sub the chocolate or mocha and use less cacao)

Mix everything together until the mixture is a dough-like consistency. Form into 1-inch balls and store in the fridge. If the mixture is a bit runny or hard to form into balls, add a bit more coconut flour until desired consistency is reached.

*I have no idea how many balls this will make because I was eating them steadily throughout. Sorry…and yet…not.

Enjoy!
